Following on from the successful 18xx Jubilee Convention, sometimes known as ExxCon, ExxCon II is an 18xx tournament held over the 2003 late May Bank Holiday weekend (from 14:00 Friday 23rd May 2003 to 18:00 Monday 26th May 2003). I think that's the Memorial Day weekend in the US. There will be trophies for at least first, second, and third places, with more if the numbers warrant it, plus medals for success in individual games.
We’ve had to change hotel, though not hotel chain, since last year. This year we're at the Telford Moat House (in Telford, Shropshire, UK), which is a modern hotel situated in the heart of the Black Country, close to the early Industrial Revolution sites of Ironbridge and Coalbrookdale. It lies directly off Junction 5 of the M54. The closest railway station is Telford, about quarter of a mile (400m) away. The closest airport is Birmingham, about 35 miles (55 km) away, though unless a direct flight is available foreigners might well be better going to London (Heathrow or Gatwick) and using surface transportation thereafter.
Accommodation costs £30 (about $45) per person per night bed and breakfast, or £24 ($36) each for two sharing, to be paid directly to the hotel on departure. There is a convention fee of £7.50, rising to £15 on 27 April 2003. Those without access to sterling or PayPal can pay the lower fee at the door provided they book in advance. Space is limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!
The main tournament will include some seeded games, with opponents selected by the Tournament Director (Chris Lawson). To do this, we need to know which games you’d prefer to play, and when you propose to arrive on your first day, so please fill in the appropriate parts of the booking form.
Further detail to be added later.
