Notes
1 - There are no 6-trains in Unit 3.  After the purchase of the first 5-train begins phase 3, 7-trains are available as well as the type 3T and U3 trains.
2 - Unit 3, Rule 4.5.2: "A Route must begin and end with a large Station except that the '3T' Train may begin and end its run on any Station that is available to the Company...."
3 - Unit 3, Rule 4.5.4: "The Route must not be longer than that allowed for the Train.  The Train number indicates the maximum number of Stations it can connect although the U3 Train may connect any number of small Stations in addition to three large ones, two of which must form the ends of its Route."

However, note the following rules from 1825 Extension Kit K2: Advanced Trains:

"Type 'U' trains are limited to the number of large Stations shown but the number of small Stations connected is unlimited (as in '1853').  The Route may end at a small Station (again as in '1853')."

"Type 'T' Trains are limited to the number of Stations shown which may be large or small, without restriction.  A small Station may form the end of a Route.  These Trains are the only ones allowed to use single track (as shown by a black and white dashed line and included in Regional Kits).  These trains may also call at two value 10 Stations on the same Tile or hexag."

Lou Jerkich writes: "While the Unit 3 rule for the U3 trains may perhaps work when that Unit is played alone, I would definitely use the K2 Advanced Trains rule for the type U train in any other Unit or combination of Units.  Otherwise, the U3 train is likely just to be a very expensive type 3-train, since most of the small Stations usually end up being promoted to large Stations, and an excess small Station is more likely to be on the edge of a Route rather than in between the large Stations to which the train runs.

The K2 Advanced Trains rule for type 'T' Trains refers to the 'single' track tiles found in the original Regional Kits 1 and 3.  I don't have those original kits.  My later editions of those kits don't have 'single' track, so all trains can use the track tiles that come with those kits and the T-train's main advantage is thus in not requiring the end of a Route to be a large Station.  They have one other small advantage.  Only T-trains can count the 10-value stop on a 'Halt' tile.  A 'Halt' tile is a green tile #11 that promotes a gentle curve plain track tile #8.  It looks like a brown type #40 tile but has a stop (small cross-bar) on one of the curves.  All other Trains simply ignore the Halt stop.

Be advised that the number of trains in play can vary depending on how Units are combined.  Also, there are additional type 6 and 7 Trains included if Kit K3 (Phase 4) is used, and there are also additional Advanced Trains (4T, 2+2, and 4+4E).  Adding either or both of these kits changes the numbers of the other types of Trains that are proper to the Unit or combination of Units being played.

Finally, each Minor company in the game has its own built-in Train that is paid for from the initial capitalization.  These companies thus start with a Train already on hand.  The Minor company Train types include three 5-trains, two each of 3T, U3, 4T, and one 2+2.  Unit 3 has three Minor Companies that are part of the Unit.  The other 7 Minor Companies are all part of extra kits."
